Tipperary ETB invited FET College to take part in the national “Reduce Your Use” Poster Competition, an engaging opportunity for learners to showcase their creativity while promoting energy awareness across the public sector.
For the Reduce Your Use poster competition, I selected the slogan “Watts Up? Turn It Off” as it uses clever wordplay to directly link the concept of electricity (“watts”) with the simple action of switching something off. The phrase is short, memorable, and immediately communicates the theme of energy saving.
In my design, the illustrated lightbulb character is still awake at 2am, reinforcing the idea that lights are often left on unnecessarily. This humorous visual helps highlight how energy waste can happen without people realising it, by focusing on a common everyday habit, turning off lights when they are not in use, the poster promotes a clear and practical solution.
The bold typography and glowing yellow text were chosen to visually represent light and energy, ensuring the message stands out strongly while supporting the overall “Reduce Your Use” competition theme.
